What is Teddies for Loving Care?

Teddies for Loving Care (TLC) is a charity initiative run by Freemasons in several countries, including Ireland. Its goal is to provide teddy bears to children who are in hospital emergency departments, helping to reduce the fear and anxiety that can come with being in a clinical or unfamiliar setting.

    • Who it’s for: Primarily young children in A&E (Accident & Emergency) departments and Paediatric Wards.

    • Purpose: The teddy bears act as a comfort and distraction during what can be a stressful or painful time.

    • How it works: Hospitals are given supplies of bears, which are then distributed by healthcare professionals when needed.

    • Funding: Entirely funded by Freemasons and public donations—hospitals don’t pay for the bears.

It’s a small gesture with a big impact, often helping medical staff to build trust with young patients and easing difficult situations.

Supported by Local Freemasons

The work of TLC is funded through the generous donations of Freemasons and their families. Many Freemasons also volunteer hundreds of hours each year to manage the scheme, deliver bears to hospitals, campaign to raise funds and increase awareness through events and talks.

TLC is locally managed by Freemasons who also volunteer their time to run the scheme.
