What Is Freemasonry?
Freemasonry is often called “a unique system of morality, told through allegory and symbol.” In everyday terms, it’s a time-tested path for helping men grow into better versions of themselves—using stories and powerful symbols to pass on timeless wisdom.
Its ceremonies may be written in old English, but don’t let that fool you. That’s just the surface. Behind the words lies a deeper meaning—insights you can carry into every part of your life, from family and work to your role in the wider world.
How Do I Become a Mason?
Once you’ve decided to take the first step and meet the basic requirements, you’ll start by submitting an enquiry. From there, you’ll be introduced to the Lodge Secretary.
If it feels right on both sides, you’ll complete an application. After a friendly interview with some of the members of our lodge, your application will be submitted to all the lodges in our province for comment, then your application will be voted upon by the members of the lodge.
If accepted, you’ll be initiated—and your lifelong journey in Freemasonry will officially begin.
How Long Does It Take to Become a Mason?
Freemasonry is a lifelong journey, so there’s no need to rush. The process takes about 6 months from your initial enquiry to your Initiation. That timeline can vary based on your availability and other breaks etc.
What About Religion & Belief in a Supreme Being?
To join Freemasonry, you do need to believe in a Supreme Being—but that doesn’t mean it’s a religion. Freemasonry isn’t here to replace your faith or tell you how to worship.
It’s open to men from all religious backgrounds—or even those who aren’t part of a formal religion. What matters is a shared sense of higher purpose and values. This belief creates common ground while still respecting each member’s personal beliefs and journey.
What Are the Secrets of Freemasonry?
The “secrets” of Freemasonry aren’t about hidden power or mystery—they’re symbolic elements like words, signs, and ceremonies used for recognition and deeper learning.
These traditions have been passed down for generations and are designed to help members explore ethical and philosophical ideas in a meaningful way. As you move through the degrees, the teachings unfold gradually, offering more insight over time.
They also create a strong sense of connection among Masons and help preserve the integrity of the experience for everyone.
Can Atheists Become Masons?
Freemasonry welcomes men from all walks of life—but belief in a Supreme Being is a core requirement.
If you identify as an atheist, you wouldn’t meet that particular criteria. This belief forms the foundation for many of the values, teachings, and shared commitments that unite Masons around the world.
Before we take your details so that the lodge secretary can contact you please read our membership principles.
